Hello PV Families,
Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed a restful and joyful break with friends and loved ones and are as excited and grateful as I am to step into a new year together.
Please take a moment to explore this newsletter for photos from recent events (such as our Skate Night over the break and our Grade 5 trip to the Capitol), important announcements, and upcoming events.

Math Night is scheduled of Jan 28th from 6-7pm for all grade levels. One of my fun nights of the year. Please don't miss out.

A special reminder to always click on the PTO link, under "Important Links" below, to stay up to date on upcoming events, meeting dates, and other important information on the PTO website.
One event I would like to highlight—and seek volunteers for—is our Cultural Day. While the PTO and the school have decided to make this more of a school-day event to ensure all students can participate and that it becomes a meaningful learning experience for our entire student body, family involvement remains essential—just in a different way.
If you are interested in being part of the planning team, please reach out to Marisa Lewis, our World Language teacher, at mlewis@southwindsorschools.org.
Some of the ideas discussed at our PTO meeting include:
  • Hosting the event during the school day
  • Student cultural displays in the hallways and gym
  • Interactive stations featuring games and activities from various cultures
Once the planning committee is formed, families will be contacted with details about the many ways they can contribute to making Cultural Day a meaningful celebration for all students and families. We all have a culture and a way of living to share—and to learn from one another.
Secondly, in the month of February, we will be piloting a hybrid PTO meeting. The meeting will take place in person at PV in the Library Media Center, with a virtual option available. Childcare will be provided, along with cookies, cupcakes, and hot beverages. Please be sure to RSVP using this link so we can plan appropriately for food and beverages.
This will also be a great opportunity to learn more about running for the PTO Board, as we are currently recruiting for the positions of President, Vice President, and Secretary.
Thank you for your continued partnership. As I shared with staff in my welcome note, it truly takes a village—and you are an important part of the village that makes PV not just good, but great. Thank you for all you’ve done, all you do, and all you will continue to do for our students and staff.

Have a great weekend!

Message from our Library

The Great PV Library Book Search
Happy New Year! I am reaching out to our wonderful PV community with a special mission. While our new library is a fantastic space, our shelves are feeling a bit lonely—we are currently looking for  1,003 missing books!

Right now, we have 485 books marked as “overdue” and 518 books are marked "lost." To help our library stay a vibrant place for all K - 5 readers, I’m asking every student and family to put on their Detective Hat this month!

Where to look:
Please help your child scour the most common hiding spots: backpacks, lockers, classroom desks, car seat pockets, and home bookshelves. Whether a book is just a little late or has been missing for multiple years, we just want to see it back home!

A quick reminder on our 2026 policies:
  • Overdue: Books are marked overdue 3 weeks after checkout.
  • Lost: Books are transitioned to "lost" status after 3 months.

If a book has truly vanished:
We understand that sometimes books go on permanent vacations! If a book is truly lost, you are responsible for its replacement so we can restore the collection for other students (this includes books checked out last year or even the year before). You can help by:
  1. Purchasing a new copy of the book for the library.
  2. Sending in a check for the cost of the book (payable to South Windsor Public Schools).
  3. Sending in cash for the replacement cost.

For any payments received, a receipt will be emailed to you for your records.

Thank you for being such a supportive part of our reading community. Let’s work together to get these books back into the hands of our students. Happy searching, detectives!

Message from the Nurse's Office

Please have a weather appropriate change of clothes in your student's backpack at all times.

If your student has borrowed a change of clothes from the nurse's office this school year. Please wash and have your student return them to the nurses office.

Senator Murphy's Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest 2026

Senator Murphy is continuing the tradition of asking elementary, middle, and high schools from across Connecticut to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by submitting essays that reflect on Dr. King’s dream, their own aspirations, and what Dr. King means to them.

Our office will share an updated timeline for submissions, contest guidelines, and the essay submission portal in January. We will also update the Senator’s website to reflect these changes in the new year.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with us at 860-549-8463 or email us at MLK_Essay@murphy.senate.gov.
