Hello PV Families,
I hope this message finds you well. We are doing fantastic here at PV! We had a wonderful week and are looking forward to the upcoming MLK long weekend.
A few important announcements and updates to share:
Math Night is scheduled for January 28th from 6:00–7:00 PM and is open to all grade levels. Please be sure to review the updated flyer, which includes a snow date. This is one of my favorite nights of the year, and we hope you and your children will be able to join us for an evening of learning and fun—please don’t miss out!
I would also like to thank the parents who have reached out to support the planning of our upcoming Cultural Day. We have also seen growing interest among staff to join the planning committee, and some exciting ideas are already percolating. We are hoping to combine this celebration with Global Play Day in March. This will be a community-wide event where everyone can contribute. Students will be coming home with a project to work on in preparation, and families will receive a sign-up form to volunteer throughout the day. We are currently exploring a holiday-fair or walkathon-style event and will continue to keep you updated as plans develop.
Our Spirit Gear Sale is currently going on, this is the link to order... Please consider supporting PV by purchasing one (or two!) items to proudly show your PV Pride. In addition, our PV Wolfpack Game Day is scheduled for February 6th. Please visit the PTO website for more information.
We are also excited to share that we are fortunate to host two author visits this year. The first will take place in February for students in grades K–2, followed by a district-wide author visit in March. More details will be shared in next week’s newsletter.
Another reminder that we will be piloting a hybrid PTO meeting. The meeting will take place in person at PV in the Library Media Center, with a virtual option available. Childcare will be provided, along with cookies, cupcakes, and hot beverages. Please be sure to RSVP using this link so we can plan accordingly for refreshments. This will also be a great opportunity to learn more about running for the PTO Board, as we are currently recruiting for the positions of President, Vice President, and Secretary.
Finally, please note that there will be no school on Monday in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. As we reflect on his legacy, I leave you with two of his powerful reminders:
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”
“The time is always right to do what is right.”
— Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Wishing you a restful and meaningful long weekend.
Graciously,
Esther & Jenna

Message from our Library

The Great PV Library Book Search
Happy New Year! I am reaching out to our wonderful PV community with a special mission. While our new library is a fantastic space, our shelves are feeling a bit lonely—we are currently looking for  1,003 missing books!

Right now, we have 485 books marked as “overdue” and 518 books are marked "lost." To help our library stay a vibrant place for all K - 5 readers, I’m asking every student and family to put on their Detective Hat this month!

Where to look:
Please help your child scour the most common hiding spots: backpacks, lockers, classroom desks, car seat pockets, and home bookshelves. Whether a book is just a little late or has been missing for multiple years, we just want to see it back home!

A quick reminder on our 2026 policies:
  • Overdue: Books are marked overdue 3 weeks after checkout.
  • Lost: Books are transitioned to "lost" status after 3 months.

If a book has truly vanished:
We understand that sometimes books go on permanent vacations! If a book is truly lost, you are responsible for its replacement so we can restore the collection for other students (this includes books checked out last year or even the year before). You can help by:
  1. Purchasing a new copy of the book for the library.
  2. Sending in a check for the cost of the book (payable to South Windsor Public Schools).
  3. Sending in cash for the replacement cost.

For any payments received, a receipt will be emailed to you for your records.

Thank you for being such a supportive part of our reading community. Let’s work together to get these books back into the hands of our students. Happy searching, detectives!

Message from the Nurse's Office

Please have a weather appropriate change of clothes in your student's backpack at all times.

If your student has borrowed a change of clothes from the nurse's office this school year. Please wash and have your student return them to the nurses office.

Senator Murphy's Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest 2026

Senator Murphy is continuing the tradition of asking elementary, middle, and high schools from across Connecticut to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by submitting essays that reflect on Dr. King’s dream, their own aspirations, and what Dr. King means to them.

Our office will share an updated timeline for submissions, contest guidelines, and the essay submission portal in January. We will also update the Senator’s website to reflect these changes in the new year.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with us at 860-549-8463 or email us at MLK_Essay@murphy.senate.gov.
