Happy Friday!
Math Night was a fun learning experience. We want to thank all the families that braced the cold weather to enjoy the night that the Math team (Alter, Furey, Brown, Manguinao, Boettger, Craig) along with our SWHS honors voluneteers set up for our students.
Kindly review the attached memo on our State Assessment dates from our Asst. Superinterdent of Curriculum and Instruction.
Authors Visit - Pleasant Valley will host two author visits this year! On February 20, award-winning author Candice Taylor will visit grades K–2. On March 2, Juana Martinez-Neal, our districtwide elementary author, will join us. Katie Belden, our Reading Instructional Coach, is collaborating with our librarian, Heather O'Connor and will share details with families through classroom teachers. These visits support our mission by sparking curiosity, deepening the love of books, see themselves as authors.
We would like to thank Ms. Lewis and Ms. DeHaas for leading this committee work alongside our parent partners. More details about the day—including cultural projects, parent volunteer sign-ups, and additional information—via ParentSquare.
The vision is to create a day similar to Field Day, with three rotating stations. One rotation will take place in classrooms (parent volunteers needed-please use scan code on flyer to sign up), where students and families will highlight a cultural element and engage students in activities such as weaving, storytelling, and more. The second rotation will be in the hallways, where students will participate in a gallery walk showcasing cultural artifacts and projects created by students. The third rotation will take place in the gym and on the playground (parent volunteers needed) and will involve learning and playing games from various cultures, including Hurling/Camogie (Ireland), Cricket (India), Bocce (Italy), Soccer (Brazil), Ampe (Ghana), Ludo (Jamaica), and more.
This event is a celebration of all the cultures represented at PV. We encourage families to support their children with project completion for hallway displays, volunteer to serve on the planning committee, teach a game or dance during the event, and participate in other ways. Students will be coming home today with a flyer further describing the event including QR codes to sign up.
This is also a reminder that we will be piloting a hybrid PTO meeting. The meeting will take place in person at PV in the Library Media Center, with a virtual option available. Childcare will be provided, along with cookies, cupcakes, and hot beverages. Please be sure to RSVP using the link below so we can plan accordingly for refreshments.
This will also be a great opportunity to learn more about running for the PTO Board, as we are currently recruiting for the positions of President, Vice President, and Secretary.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We wish you a wonderful weekend!

Graciously,
Esther &Jenna

PV’s Library Shelves are Filling UP

Dear Families,

Our Library Rescue Mission is officially in motion! There are only 272 OVERDUE stragglers to get back to school on Monday. Students are definitely learning the power of being a responsible patron—including the "superpower" of renewing books before they’re late. Once the overdue books are back home, we’re shifting gears to a full-scale "Missing Books February."

Cheers,
Heather
