Hello PV Families,
We had a short but eventful week at Pleasant Valley!
On Wednesday evening, our PV Peer Mediators were recognized as the spotlight at this month’s Board of Education meeting. We are incredibly proud of our students for demonstrating our SWPS Portrait of a Graduate pillars of Engagement and Empowerment in action.
We also celebrated the 20th anniversary of Read for the Record. This year’s book, See Marcus Grow, was read in all classrooms, and students participated in related art and craft activities—many alongside their Partner Pals classes. It was wonderful to see our community come together around literacy.
It’s finally here! On Monday, we will welcome author and illustrator Juana Martinez-Neal to PV. Our library media specialists have been reading her books in preparation for her visit. If your child has a copy of one of her books, they are welcome to bring it in for an autograph.
As part of our celebration of reading, we will also enjoy a Read Across America Spirit Week. We’ll kick things off by showing our PV pride—students are encouraged to wear PV gear or our school colors (blue and gold/yellow). Please see the flyer below for more details.
🎉 Cultural Day & Global Play Day – March 12
March 12 is quickly approaching! We encourage parents and caregivers to sign up to support your child’s classroom or assist with Global Games in the gym. Your involvement helps make this day extra special for our students. Please see posts from Aly Dehaas for additional information.
We also encourage families to support students in completing their cultural projects. If you need materials (such as a trifold board), please email us—we’re happy to help. We already have some wonderful projects coming in and want to ensure every student has the opportunity to share their traditions and heritage with one another.
This event connects directly to our goal of fostering a strong sense of belonging for all members of our PV community. Everyone is encouraged to participate!
A few important reminders:
  • 🎵 The Grade 5 Concert will be held on March 5 at 7:00 PM. We invite all families to join us for this special performance.
  • 📅 There is no school on Tuesday, March 10.
Thank you for your continued partnership. Have a wonderful weekend!

Graciously,
Esther & Jenna
