Family Newsletter 9/18

Dear PV Families,

PV was living our Portrait of a Graduate (PoG) attributes all week! 💙💛 From our fifth graders creating their own Grade 5 PoG to students in reading intervention fully engaged in learning with their teachers, we saw our focus of Engaged in action throughout the school. We also celebrated Dot Day, connecting its message of creativity, courage, and making your mark to our PoG attributes.

Our students have also been demonstrating 

Resilience during recess while portions of our playscape remain unavailable. They have done a wonderful job making the most of their recess time by enjoying the field, basketball court, blacktop, and the open areas of the playscape, including the swings and spinners. We appreciate their flexibility and positive attitudes, and we are looking forward to having the entire playscape open next week!

As we continue working toward our goal of creating a sense of belonging for all, we want to make sure our families have ongoing opportunities to share their voices. Please use our Family Feedback Form throughout the school year—at any time and as often as you would like—to share celebrations, suggestions, or areas where we can grow. 

There is a lot happening at PV, so please read the newsletter in its entirety! Inside, you’ll find information about after-school program registration, pictures of our Peer Mediator training, our first graders earning a dance party for meeting cafeteria expectations video, pictures of Partner Pals connecting our older and younger students, FISH activities, announcements/upcoming events such as our first PV Family Hike Sep 20th, Picture Days on September 28 & 29, and much more.

We also say thank you to Ms. Bivins as she completes her time as our LTS and welcome Mr. Furey back!

📚 And don’t miss our PTO Read-a-Thon, which begins next week! This is our biggest fall fundraiser, and the funds raised help support field trips and other experiences for our students. Students are coming home with a flyer and registration information. Please help us make this fundraiser a success by registering your child and inviting family and friends to support our PV students. Every contribution makes a difference!

This week, our Panthers were challenged to show what it means to be Engaged through exploration and interests! Students explored their passions, made choices about how they learn and communicate, and thought about the ways they can best share what they know. From choosing a book or topic that sparks their curiosity to finding a way to share their learning that plays to their strengths, our students continued to put engagement into action. Check out the images below to see some of our students displaying their engagement skills this week!

Families can keep the conversation going at home by asking, “What did you learn about this week that really interested you?” or “How did you get to choose how you learned or shared your learning?” Encouraging your child to explore their interests and recognize how they learn best is another great way to build engagement beyond the classroom!
