Family Newsletter 9/25

Dear PV Families,

It has been another wonderful week here at Pleasant Valley.  Despite it being a short week, it was a week filled with many moments of curiosity and connection.  

Please take a moment to read this newsletter in its entirety.  Here are a few upcoming events and dates to take note of:

1) Read-A-Thon starts today!  The excitement is high, and many students have already signed up and have begun to raise funds.  Join the fun and encourage your student to Read, Read, Read!

2) Our first movie night of the year, brought to you by the PTO, is tonight!  We will be kicking off the Read-A-Thon with a viewing of the Cat in the Hat in the PV gym from 6-8 pm.  Light snacks will be available for purchase, but you are welcome to bring dinner and comfy chairs, blankets, and pillows to make it a cozy evening with family and friends.  

3) Today is the last day to sign up for the STEM  and MOEMS after school clubs.  The sign-up buttons are below. 

We hope you have a safe, warm, and dry weekend!  We looking forward to welcoming our students back on Monday.

This week, our Panthers learned about showing engagement by managing distractions and staying focused. Engaged learners stay involved, even when distractions are around them. They pay attention to their work and take initiative to get started right away.

Our K–2 students were challenged to practice staying focused throughout the entirety of a task, while our students in grades 3–5 were asked to check in on a personal learning goal, reflect on the progress they have made, and plan their next steps.

Families can reinforce this at home by asking, “What helped you stay focused this week?” or “What is one goal you are working toward, and what is your next step?” These simple conversations can help children recognize the strategies they use to stay engaged and take ownership of their learning.
